Divorced or Remarried Parents Wedding Invitation Wording
Getting the balance right and trying not to offend anyone in the family can be a tricky situation – and wedding invitations are no exception. With divorced parents who have kept the same surname the protocol is to use both parents’ full names on the invite (assuming they are hosting the wedding day):
Mr James Jones & Mrs Jennifer Jones
request the pleasure of
{guest name / your company}
at the marriage of their daughter Joanna
to Mr Jonathan Johnson
{location}
{date}
{time}
followed by a reception
RSVP by 15th May to {parent’s address)
But what if your parents are hosting the wedding but have remarried? Etiquette dictates that both parents are named separately, and that the mother’s new married name be used:
Mr James Jones & Mrs Jennifer Jakeman
request the pleasure of
{guest name / your company}
at the marriage of their daughter Joanna
to Mr Jonathan Johnson
{location}
{date}
{time}
followed by a reception
RSVP by 15th May to {parent’s address)
